PLACEYOUR

European Union co-funded project about Place Branding and Circular Tourism

ABOUT US

PlaceYour project is committed to transforming the tourism industry by fostering sustainable and responsible travel experiences.

According to the World Tourism Organization, tourism is one of the leading drivers of global economic growth, contributing 10% of the world’s GDP and supporting 1 in every 11 jobs worldwide. However, traditional tourism models have long been based on a linear economy—one that prioritizes mass consumption over sustainability, leading to environmental degradation, cultural loss, and resource depletion.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerabilities of this outdated system, highlighting the urgent need for a shift towards a more sustainable tourism model. Today, travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that connect them with nature, local cultures, and well-being. This shift calls for a new approach—one that integrates environmental and social responsibility while preserving cultural heritage and promoting biodiversity.

To achieve this transformation, it requires collaboration between key tourism stakeholders, including vocational education and training (VET) institutions, businesses, local communities, and policymakers. However, the current training opportunities in circular and sustainable tourism remain limited, particularly in Europe and Latin America. Recognizing this gap, the European Commission has identified tourism as a priority sector in its “Blueprint for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills” initiative, emphasizing the need for specialized training programs.

The PlaceYour project aims to promote collaboration between VET institutions, companies and organizations in Latin America and Europe active in the tourism field for the creation, professionalization and insertion of new profiles allowing the development of sustainable and responsible forms of tourism.
